Cowboy has been enjoying the summer weather and spending time with his foster kids.  He loves going to the beach and is starting to like going into the ocean water.  Cowboy is becoming more disciplined and has improved a lot on following commands.  He has recently started going to doggy daycare once a week and he loves it!  He gets a chance to play with many other dogs and get out a lot of his energy.  Everyone at doggy daycare loves him and says that he’s such a good sweet boy.

5/6 Cowboy is a happy boy!  He and I went for a two mile run yesterday and today.  He has become such a great running buddy.  He get’s very excited when he hears the word “walk.”  I had been crating him while taking showers, etc, but the past few days I have been leaving him out and about for 15 minutes at a time alone and he has done great.  Last week he met my 1 year and 3 year old brothers and was wonderful with them.  He’s very gentle with little kids and doesn’t really pay much attention to them beyond a greeting kiss.  Cowboy has learned a few new commands and catches on quickly!  Right now I am working with him on “stay.”  He has a cute talent I have never seen another dog do before….he can catch stuffed animals with his two front legs; it’s a riot!

4/11 Cowboy is doing well!  His manners have gotten better and he is such a joy.  We absolutely love him. I have found that one of his favorite things are fresh pine needles.  When I take him for a walk on the trails in the woods he rolls all over the freshly fallen pine needles when he sees branches that have just fallen; it's the funniest thing.  Cowboy is great on walks when using a gentle leader.  Even my 7 and 9 year old children are able to walk him without him pulling too hard.  Yesterday was Cowboy's first trip to a pet store and he did very well.

Cowboy does well with meeting new people, but I thought he may try to jump up on someone; he didn't.  He behaved himself quite well!
His relationship with my cat is not going as well as I thought it would, although it is getting better.  If I am with them and and have him lay, they can sleep openly in the same room as long as the supervision remains in the room.  He is too rough with her, as he tries to "box" her and doesn't realize his own strength.  He also tries to bite her tail.  I always make sure that they are apart unless I am right there because I still don't trust him with her.  I have also seen him be too rough with smaller dogs as well.  Cowboy is very sweet, but I would probably recommend that his forever home be without cats and maybe even without small dogs.

Cowboy has a great relationship with his foster kids and loves to ride in the car to drop them off at school in the morning.  He watches sadly out the back window as we drive away.  He and the kids play well in the back yard and he is always gentle with them. He has extremely long legs and can clear a 4 foot fence easily by pulling his legs up like landing gear on an airplane, lol!  Seriously! I had one section of fence that was only 4 feet tall, but after I saw him jump it I built it up a half a foot and he hasn't been able to since.

And he loves to cuddle!

3/15 Cowboy is doing very well!  He's so tall I just want to call him Moose :)  He's a very sweet boy. He's a happy-go-lucky typical young male boxer.  I've noticed that he will jump up on adults which I will continue to work with him on, but he hasn't jumped up on my kids since he has been here.  My kids are 7 and 9 years old.  His biggest curiosity has been my 8 month old kitten.  They have been playing "boxing games" through my staircase railings.  I would say that my kitten is just as curious.  It appears as though they will be fine together, but I will continue to closely monitor their interactions to be on the safe side.   Cowboy understands the commands "sit" and "paw" and is very gentle when taking reward treats from my hand.  Today I took him for a mile run followed by a mile walk which went pretty well.  It was enough to make him want to nap!  I am looking forward to him settling in a bit more to see more of his personality!

This handsome boy is Cowboy.  He is a bit of a wild child !!! He will need a home where he will get lots of regular exercise, training and leadership.  He is good with other dogs, he is also good with kids but might be better with older kids due to his energy level.  He would also do best in a home with a fenced in yard.

Watch for updates as we get to know this Cowboy :)
