8/8 Well Dempsey has settled in very well. He is a very
laid back dog. He has been "talking" a lot lately. He will let you know when
he needs to go out. He knows the difference between each of his toys. He has
a little stuffed horse that my daughter gave him, and he caries it with him
everywhere. It is his baby. If you say find your baby, get your rope, even
get the brush, he brings it to you right away. He is very intelligent and
will let you know what he wants to do. You can open the door and he will run
straight to the car, and when you get home he runs right to the door and will
sit there waiting for you to open it. He knows more than just basic commands,
and doesn't have to be told twice to do most of them. He loves to go for
rides, and just loves to be with people.
His
separation anxiety is starting to get better. He could use a companion
to help him pass the time when his humans are away. He has a couple of friends
that live next door that he plays with everyday. Dempsey has a tendency to be
a very vocal dog when he plays with his friends, and he gets upset when he
can't catch his little Beagle buddy when they are running around the yard. He
will stop chasing him and sit on the steps and pout just to get his way. Then
it's race day at the track again. He isn't the fastest thing on four legs, but
he keeps up with the neighbors
English Mastiff and Beagle.
He is great with kids big and small. He sits and watches
over our friends 7 month old daughter like she is his own. He has been
following our 11 year old daughter all around .
He is a very loyal, intelligent, and loving companion, and
will make a fantastic addition to anyone's family.
7/19 We did get a crate for Dempsey. Now I just have to get him used to it. When I first set it up all he did was look at it. We have only been able to get him in it twice, and that was only for about 2 minutes at a time. The first time was better than the second, he started to panic on the second attempt. It looks like the crate may not be a good idea, but I will keep trying.
Dempsey has met a dog savvy cat. He was interested in
meeting her at first, but quickly lost interest when she didn't take kindly to
his Boxer kisses. He also met a few hamsters that he wasn't interested at all
in. His antics are very comical, the more you laugh the more he does. He is
the biggest lap dog I have ever met ! It doesn't matter who you are, he will
end up in your lap, then shower you with kisses.
He loves to play with other dogs, and can get a little
vocal when doing it. Big or small he will play with them all.
7/7 He seems to get upset when we leave him alone for more than an hour. If we leave him alone for less time , he seems OK. He hasn't had free roam of the house unless we are with him. He has been locked in the kitchen area when we are out, but he escaped. He doesn't get destructive but will have accidents. As far as exercise, he is getting as much as he wants. He plays with the dogs next door, with my daughter, and with me. He does tend to play pretty rough sometimes, so I watch him when he plays with my daughter. We are going to work on crate training him and see if that helps.
He is a great dog, and will be a great addition to
anyone's family.
6/29 Dempsey is settling in at his foster home.
He is doing well. He does suffer from
some separation anxiety ! He sits in the window and doesn't move until
someone gets home. He has had an accident in the house twice. He has
been getting along very well with other dogs. He likes the couch, and his
previous owners must have let him sleep in the bed, and boy does he HOG it
:-) He gets a little antsy on the leash with another dog around, but after a
few minutes he calms down. You can tell that a man originally owned him,
because WOW has he taken to me. He tends to obey males better than women. He
doesn't seem to want to play with women, as he tends to get pretty rough. But
all in all he is a great dog !!
Dempsey is a gorgeous, and sweet big boxer boy. He loves everyone. Good with other dogs but can react negatively to other dogs when he is leashed. He also has some mild separation anxiety and will have accidents when left home alone, but when he is with another dog this is less of an issue. Therefore he will need a home where someone is home more often than not and possibly a compatible canine companion. Watch for updates once we secure a foster home and get to know Dempsey. |
