4/28 Murphy is doing great. He has come such a long way since we first got him. He is much better when we leave him in his crate I don't leave him alone more than 4 to 6 hours I think that is long enough. I don't crate him at night which helps out a lot he sleeps in the spare room with the door shut when we get up in the morning the door is open and the cat is sleeping right with him. He is getting much better on leash still we work with him every day. We had a lot of dogs here on Easter. Three shit shuzs and a lab puppy he was amazing he really did not mind the other dogs at all. He is around other dogs all of the time, so I think that he could be placed with a well balanced dog. 2/9 Murphy is doing great. Like I said before he doesn't like his crate at all, so what I have been doing is taking him to work with me. The car ride is an hour long each way and loves every minute of it. He is less stressed out when he is around people. I still try to leave him alone for about 2 to 3 hours to try to break him from this. I am able to have him with me through the day so it is perfect for both of us. I have lost 7 pounds since he has been with us its like having a 2 year old around he is always on the go. He loves the outdoors sometimes too much cause he is never left unattended, so rain or shine or snow we are out on nature walks running and try to get some of his energy out. Murphy is the fastest running dog I have ever met. I thought my 1 year old boxer ran fast Murphy blows him away. He looks much older than he is and has the energy of a 1 year old. We still have to be very careful with food and bones. More attention the better for Murphy I think he would do better in a home with him being the only dog and a cat would be ok. 1/20 Murphy is doing great. He spends all the time with his brothers, and loves the cat, they even take naps together. He has earned the right to be on the couch on my command. I attached a few photos for you to look at. I have worked more this week then I usually do and Murphy had a hard time with it. He vomited twice one day and was not him self when I came home. He hates his crate. Murphy needs so much exercise on a daily basis. Feeding time is still an issue, which we work on daily. We all love Murphy very much. He is such a good dog. 1/7 It's been a couple of days since we have
talked, things have changed since then. Murphy has come so far in a very
short period of time. It is so wonderful to see a dog become balanced
right before your eyes. He is a challenge but well worth it. His
food aggression with the other dogs I still work on daily. Murphy has
become great with my cat it took a couple of long days but the cat was a good
helper, he used to cry and be obsessed with him, know he could care less if
he was around. Don't get me wrong I would never leave them alone together.
My mom came over last night and could not believe the improvement he has
made, which makes me feel great. When I first got him he had pretty
bad separation anxiety when I would leave him he hated his crate would not
go near it. I made sure that I would leave him every day to help
him with this fear. Last night at dinner I put him in his crate while
we ate. I didn't hear a peep. I still always keep him on the
leash when ever their is toys or food around. I think Murphy would be a
perfect dog for a very active family that has an older child and no other dogs.
He has so much energy and love to give. He is extremely obedient. 1/3 Murphy is settling in at his foster home. We have discovered that Murphy does have some Resource Guarding (food, toys, bones) Issues when he is around other dogs, although when there is nothing to guard he gets along fine with the other dog in his foster home and loves to play. We will be working on this behavior in foster care however due to this he will need to be placed as an only dog or in a home that is used to handling such issues that can arise in a multi dog household. He is getting along great with all the humans and the cat. Watch for more updates.
Murphy is a very
sweet dog, immediately excited to say "hi" and super friendly, he's
full of boxer wiggles and kisses, he does like to jump up however. Great
with other dogs and kids, although with his high energy might be best with
older kids.
House broken and crate trained. Will need a home where he gets lots of daily exercise and perhaps another canine companion to burn off some of that energy with. Watch for updates once we secure a foster home and get to know him more. |
