7/28 Buddy continues to do extremely well and is fitting in with our
family very nicely. It's like he's been here for years. Buddy is great
with all my cats and he's doing wonderfully with all 5 dogs. Buddy
doesn't full out play and wrestle with the dogs here..... he's pretty
laid back. Buddy loves toys and balls.... he'll play fetch for a
little while and then just entertain himself for awhile. Last night he
played with a stuffed toy for an hour nuzzling and pulling all the
stuffin out. I've noticed on a few occasions Buddy has felt the need to
guard something he feels is valuable towards the other dogs (this has
been a toy, bone, ball, etc.) however it's not an extreme case of
guarding and it has not developed into anything serious. As the
days pass he feels less and less the need to guard anything and actually
I've noticed him sharing quite a bit over the last couple of days with
everyone. He also played a wonderful game of tug o' war with my older
female.... as this is her favorite game. Guarding is one behavior I
do expect at first when a new foster arrives, whether this be towards
food or toys.... only because the fosters are still getting to know the
resident dogs. Some cases are more intense then others but Buddy's
is no huge issue. He re-directs very easily. He has NO issues sharing
with humans and we have been able to take anything from him. The
other day he played with a little kids cloth tunnel for a good 45
minutes. He'd run in, lay down, roll around, snort, get up, run out,
circle the tunnel.... my father and I stood there and laughed the whole
time. He's very comical. When he first saw the dogs toy box I swear
you could see him light up like a light! Buddy has met many friends and
family and is such a gentleman when greeting. He's very social and
polite as he hasn't jumped on anyone unless invited. Buddy does jump up
onto the counter as he's curious about everything but takes direction
nicely when caught. We don't leave anything out to tempt him so
hopefully the jumping up will get better over time. He's doing very
well in his kennel and sleeps in it at night and when we leave. He also
had a bath a few days ago which he so desperately needed. Buddy is a
wonderful laid back boy!
7/14 Buddy has been busted out of jail and is now in foster care! The shelter staff talked very highly of Buddy and really started to fall for him. They are SO full with dogs right now they thought it be best to place him in rescue. Buddy is now neutered and is pretty much all healed. He's in dire need of a bath but we'll hold out a few more days before giving him one. He's got the most handsome gold colored eyes ever and quite the mooshed in face with a colored brow over one of his eyes. Buddy was in numerous play groups at the shelter with males and females and some were intact & not-intact and he had a blast. Buddy is staying with 5 other dogs, 4 of which are boxers ( 3 males ages 3, 5, and 5) an 11 year old female boxer and a 6 year old Male Rotti/Chow/Shep Mix. He has met and is getting along with all 5 dogs. For a boy just recently neutered and never living with or being exposed to any other dogs he's doing wonderfully. He greets other dogs very well and is extremely friendly.
Buddy was surrendered to the shelter for being too
active around the children however I don't see that much energy coming out of
him at this point. I have actually enticed him to play, run, and chase a ball
then he goes and lays down in the grass. He's not a slug however not so
active that it would be a concern for younger children. But we'll see once he
comes out of his shell some more. Buddy seems to be kennel trained. He walks
in when told and for the first few times settled nicely. I think that now
since he's met everyone and wants to interact he goes in his kennel but
doesn't want to stay there. He drooled a little and I saw a little
frustration as he grabbed the bar but when directed he stopped. He slept
throughout the night in his kennel with no noise or issues. He may be a bit
nosey if left to his own devices and get on the counter and into things if
left unattended and not kenneled.
So far Buddy seems like a very well rounded
gentleman. Who ever gets this handsome man is going to be a VERY lucky
family!
Buddy is an intact male coming to us from a local shelter. He will be off to the vet to be neutered this week. He is very friendly and outgoing. Seems to walk well on a leash, and takes direction well and easily. Buddy has lived with small kids but is described as too active for them so he would be best with older kids. Buddy is housebroken but not crate trained. Buddy has not had too much socialization with other dogs but seems to be ok with some other dogs. No history with cats. Watch for updates once we get him into a foster home and get to know him more. |
