5/7 Whiskey proved to difficult for the previous foster home and has since been moved to another foster home in our program that does not have any other animals.  In the previous foster home the resident dog and Whiskey were having a hard time accepting each other and were not getting along making things extremely difficult.  Also while in the previous foster home Whiskey was 'reacting' negatively towards the sight of another dog and sometimes approaching people when out on walks.   An experienced and seasoned BBRI volunteer took Whiskey in to evaluate her intensity and reactions towards other dogs and new people.  While in transition between foster homes we have learned that Whiskey will require a benevolent calm leader who has experience working with dogs.  Whiskey is an extremely smart and driven girl who is here to please her humans.  She resided with 4 other dogs and 6 cats.  With guidance and proper introductions Whiskey was able to play and be social with each dog one on one and also as a group with NO issues.  She had slight interest in my cats, but was able to be polite and also ignored them in other encounters.  Her interest inside my house was of no concern to me.  When the cats were outside Whiskey's interest peaked quite a bit.  I was able to take Whiskey on quite a few walks while staying here with little to no reactions towards people, other dogs, or small animals.  Her attention is beautiful and it's taken me years to get this sort of attention from my personal dogs.   While here I learned that Whiskey is a very big social butterfly.  She greeted many guests of all shapes and sizes while staying here with no bitter reactions.  She was friendly, outgoing, and quite contained.   Whiskey is a beautiful girl with LOTS of potential to being a great companion.  She would be a great candidate for obedience, agility, and rally-O etc..  Whiskey will give you her all plus more and needs someone to match that!  She needs a dedicated owner that will continue to work with her and grow together as a team as this is what Whiskey ultimately craves.

3/12 What an exciting month it's been for Winnie!  She had what appears to be her first time romping through the woods in the snow with humans and she loved it.  In typical boxer style, she loves to gobble up snow and we eventually had to start discouraging her from eating so much of it.  Winnie has gotten into playing with toys more, both by herself and with us.  She likes playing tug and gentle wrestling.  A couple of times, we've given her a brontosaurus-sized marrow bone to gnaw on and boy has she loved that.  She gets right into it, ripping, tearing, flipping it, throwing her backside right into the air, anything to get just the right angle to get the tiny morsels of meat.  At the end of February, Winnie was spayed.  The surgery went very well and her wound is healing very well.  She's such a healthy girl!  However, the event traumatized her in a way that taught us that she is very emotionally sensitive.  Thankfully, she is just about over the trauma of the spay and back to her usual self.  Recently, she's been having fun exploring parts of our yard and neighborhood that she has never seen before because they've been covered in snow.  It's so fun to watch her explore!  Probably the most exciting update from Winnie's perspective, is that she learned where the cats poop under our deck.  When she comes back into the house with a dirty nose, we know she's dined on that special feline delicacy.  How gross!

2/15 Whiskey, who we now call Winnie, is opening up more and more each day.  We discovered yesterday that she loves tennis balls, so we've had a lot of fun playing with her and her tennis ball.  She is good at retrieving and dropping upon command.  She's also started to play with all the other dog toys around the house, although she only plays when prompted by one of us.  She's learning how to enjoy stuff-it treats, like kongs, which she clearly never had before.  Her appetite is increasing and her food motivation is almost at the typical boxer level, which helps with training.  She's very tolerant and has been fine with obedience training, her heartworm medication, and claw clipping.  As she's become more comfortable, she's been barking more and more, both in reaction to sounds outside the house and when she is separated from us.  While we're definitely working on getting her to be a bit more quiet, we're happy that she's comfortable enough to express herself.  This morning, with a fresh foot of snow, we learned that she does not really like trudging through deep snow - who can blame her?

2/6 Whiskey arrived at our home on Friday afternoon.  After a long day of a vet visit, car rides, and lots of new people, she was tired.  She's settling in nicely.  Whiskey is a FANTASTIC boxer!  Not only is she extremely cute overall, but also she has the cutest smile.  When she's excited, she looks right up at you and because of her big underbite, all of her bottom front teeth show and a bit of her tongue too, and her smile just makes us smile without fail.  She is that perfect blend of affectionate, but not too much like velcro that you're tripping over her.  She is quite well-mannered with treats, walking, commands, house-training, crate-training, etc.  She has a healthy appetite and a love of exercise.  Of course, she is full of boxer wiggles.  She hasn't been too interested in toys, but that seems to be picking up as the days pass.  She is very vigilant about barking when someone comes to the house and pretty good about quieting down once she sees that we have noticed that someone is coming.  She loves going outside to our fenced in yard, at least for the 2 non-raining and non-snowing days that we've had so far.  She has LOVED meeting friends and family that have visited, but I think her favorite thing so far is riding in the car.  Stay tuned for an update in a week or so.

2/1 Whiskey went to our vet today to get her vaccinations, she tested negative for heartworm but did test positive for lyme so she will be on antibiotics for the next 3 weeks.  She has arrived at her foster home and after a short walk she is settling in.

Whiskey is a gorgeous brindle female.  She is very sweet and friendly, she is an active girl and needs her daily exercise.  She has a dominate personality so would probably be best placed as an only dog although she does get along great with certain dogs, provided she can be the boss.  She is crate trained and has also lived with cats.  She has never lived with small children but does well with older kids.  She knows her basic commands and walks nicely on the leash.

Watch for updates on Whiskey once we get her into a foster home and get to know her more.
