Bella

3 Year Old Female, Housebroken, Crate Trained

Although you may not be able to adopt this dog, you can help us care for her while she is in foster care! Even a donation of $5 will help us with vet care, food, etc.

12/5 - Miss Bella’s short stay at the Savage Zoo before heading to her foster home was a joy.  She is without a doubt the sweetest little thing and was full of boxer wiggles and kisses.  Bella has a broken nail on her paw – the e-collar in the picture is to keep the bandage on.  She will be going to the vet this week for a recheck and will hopefully have the e-collar and bandage will be removed.  Bella was extremely stressed when I first met her.  She had been in a shelter situation for so long that I think even on the long car ride, she probably figured she was just being transported to another shelter.  Bella rode well in the car and snored some on the way to the Zoo.  I crated her alone in my office for a while just to let her settle.  She slept well and drank, but did not eat.  I expected that seeing as what she has been through. Bella walks well on a leash and seems to know some basic commands – I was not going to push her as I wanted her to settle in.  Bella puts very little weight on her paw, I believe it is more that there is a bandage than that it hurts.  She will put weight on it when standing for a short while.  Oh and she can jump a baby gate – Lucky me.

Bella met some of the Zoo clan – of course you know that the 4 cats had to at one time or another wander into and out of the office.  She seemed interested but not aggressive.  She met our other foster, Randy, and they really did not seem to mind each other.  At one point Sir Prize, Latte, and Cheyenne were all staring through the baby gate at Bella – it was a short lived introduction but all seemed to go well. In my opinion given time to realize that life is again good and that no one is going to place her back in a shelter, Bella would again trust other dogs and maybe even cats.  Bella will need a lot of love, patience, and attention.  She is the sweetest girl.  She will benefit from snuggling on the couch or chair while you watch TV to following you around while you work.  Watch for more updates from that home as well.

Bella is a tiny female boxer.  Bella is not good with strange dogs although she has lived most of her life with a submissive male boxer.   She is crate trained and does need to be crated when home alone or she will have accidents.  She does not have a history with kids or cats.  Bella can be shy and timid at first but warms  up quickly and loves everyone once she knows them.

Watch for updates as we get to know Bella
