Bruschi

1 Year Old Male Boxer, Housebroken, Crate Trained, Good with Other Dogs, No Kids, Needs to be Only Dog

Although you may not be able to adopt this dog, you can help us care for him while he is in foster care! Even a donation of $5 will help us with vet care, food, etc.

4/22 - Bruschi had a quiet week with all the rain happening. Although we decided on Monday to just go to the park. It was a muddy event for everyone, but we had a great time playing with the soccer ball and playing hide and seek. He's a good finder! My niece was over for the weekend and it was his first real up close and personal encounter with a "kid", he did great! Most of the time he was killing himself trying to snuggle with her and give her kisses. Him and Sophie had a good time pushing her off the couch when bed time came and both gave her a look of "Ahh..excuse me, that's my bed you're sleeping on!" All in all .. everyone had a good week!

4/14 Bruschi has had a quiet week. Our training class is over and I think he misses it! We tried going to the park a few times, but it's been a big mud pit. My girl boxer loves it, but our sensitive Joe doesn't seem to care for it :) His counter surfing has seemed to have reared it's ugly head again, but we try to stay one step ahead of the game on him! He's a quick boy. Our walks have been going really well. We use a prong collar for our walks. His walks are more of a working walk, we work on the commands we have learned in class and he seems to enjoy the attention he gets while we are out. Other than that, Bruschi has had some quality time snuggling with us on the couch and eating good treats!

4/6 Bruschi finished his 1st round of dog training last night! He did excellent and has improved so much since day one!! We are VERY proud of this guy. His last trick of round 1 doggy school, was being placed in the down position and you have to go sit back in your seat for at least 5 minutes. He didn't move an inch. We are still working on the "come" command as he is beating to the tune of his own drum most days! :) He's a work in progress.  His new home will most certainly want to continue his training as he is still a stubborn male boxer and needs the challenges that come along with training. It is important for Bruschi to go to an experienced, confident, strong handler. He needs that calm, strong presence in his life. Bruschi enjoys spending time with our female boxer and would do fine as an only dog. He shares well with everything, but bones, so we have to give him his bones in the cage or we separate them via a doggy gate. Other than that, he's a good boy that loves to snuggle and lick the water off the shower curtain.

3/26 - We have one more training class left. Bruschi is doing great in class! He was the star pupil the other day when we had to do the "down" command and stay there while we walked around the room. I will not brag when I say he was the ONLY dog that didn't move. He kept his eye on me and was happy to get the treat when I came back. He's a stubborn thing, but seems to really enjoy the challenges of class. The trainers all say he is a good dog, and will be a great dog after the adjustment to his new home. He still enjoys sniffing the park…the whole park, and we’re working on recall. He still wears his 20 foot lead, because were not fast enough to catch him if he does not want to leave. Around the house he prances around and has taking a liking to squeaky balls!. Bruschi is a late sleeper which is nice on the weekends, and is pretty quick to curl up on the couch next to you for a nap. Bruschi just went in for his yearly physical, he is 58lbs and was given a clean bill of health (and some shots, that he took like a trooper). Although he is good with other dogs we feel he would be best placed as an only dog.

2/7 - HI Everyone! It has been awhile since you’ve heard from us. We’ve been very busy with this young man! Bruschi has started training class (thanks to Boxer Buddies) and is doing fabulous! We have only been to two classes, but he enjoys all the action in the class. He still has a way to go, but when this boy is done with class, he'll be even better. We work daily with him on his commands and although he's stubborn; there is nothing like a little tough love, structure, and consistency that will work wonders! This great boy is a bit on the insecure side, so you’ve got to deal with him in a calm, assertive manner. This is something we are learning how to do every day and at training class. We go to dog class every week and are given homework to work on for the next class. Bruschi still wears his house leash for proper discipline, but is getting the hang of what is ok to do and what not to. Again, he's still a puppy and can get into lots of new "things" to chew, eat, etc. Did you know it takes 2000 repetitions for a dog to understand ONE command you are trying to teach? But in the month we've been working with our gangly Joe, he's coming along with flying colors!  Bruschi's new home will need to be experienced and committed to continuing to work with Bruschi.

Bruschi enjoys spending his time playing with his foster sisters, running around the yard smelling everything, going to the park to meet other friends and taking road trips with his foster parents/siblings. We've brought Bruschi to the dog park several times and everyone (people included) love playing with him! He does really well with introductions and runs away when someone is a bit too rough for him. Bruschi has gone to the pet store loads of times and does well with the hustle and bustle of the store. Our daily walks are going great, and he enjoys meeting the new faces along the way.

Bruschi went on his first home visit for Boxer Buddies on Sunday. He acted like a typical boxer boy, but that is what the potential new parents loved about him. He was open, talkative, and respected the house we were visiting. He got his first look at a cat and was amazed by it. He thought it was a new toy and wanted to play, play, play. He did well with the discipline from the homeowners when he acted up. And he really helped us show new people what great work Boxer Buddies is doing with these dogs. A true ambassador for the breed, now if he would only come when we call him!

12/17 - We picked up Bruschi today. All went fine. He's a spitfire that needs A LOT of work on manners. He's very vocal and mouthy. He challenges you on EVERYTHING. We are having some issues with crate training. He does NOT like being in the crate for time out or chill out time. He barks and yelps a lot but we will work on this. He has been sharing the toys and food with Sophie great! They were swapping bowls when eating. I only have two toys out, but they play pretty well. He doesn't seem to know how to dog play, but is trying. He is on his prong and leash while around the house for when we need to discipline, he seems to not mind. Well, I'll keep you posted!!

Bruschi is a young male boxer who needs a home where he will get LOTS of exercise, leadership, and training. He is housebroken and crate trained and is used to someone home most of they day with him.

Watch for more details as we get to know him.
