12/30 Eddy is off all
meds. and is doing fantastic!!! No more accidents, crating and he has full
reign of the house. However, at times he does like to counter surf when
things are available to him. Eddy is learning to play with toys, other dogs
and people. I believe this is his first time ever experiencing "play." He
has had a successful trip to the groomer's and was a perfect gentleman. We
are still working to help him let go of his insecurities. Eddy made front
page news when he marched in the Jamestown's dog parade this past weekend,
even his roommates where in the photo with him. Eddy's manners on the leash
still need refinement due to having 15 pounds on him and being over exuberant
with life. He is looking for a playmate to rough house with and prefers to do
this with another male. Our pug gives him a good run for his money but 22
pounds do not evenly match a 67 pound white boxer. Eddy loves to nap with the
resident cats and even likes when they kiss him goodnight. His feeding
schedule needs to be consistent, to much deviation causes Eddy to get an upset
stomach and he will not eat. In these situations he responds well to Pepcid.
Eddy has made leaps and bounds in the eight weeks that he has been here but
would love to have a forever home where he can continue to be nurtured and
loved.
11/27 Eddy went to the Vet's yesterday and got an excellent report, he will taper off his med's over the next three weeks and doesn't require any more rechecks. He has gained almost seven lbs, and is filling out nicely. Eating and drinking are his favorite past times.
He has mastered the art of lounging quite well, his foster brothers and sister
are very good teachers.
I have started taking him for short walks and rides in the car, he definitely
loves both. He is really a very sweet boy, he prefers the low-key, stay at
home life style. I think he would flourish in a low to moderate activity level
home.
He prefers human company to that of my other dogs and will push them a little
to sit with me on the couch or lay at my feet. He is co-existing very well
with the cats and with my kids, he does have a soft spot for my thirteen year
old daughter ( probably because she lets him sleep in her bed !)
11/9 Eddy is getting better, his appetite is back as is his "wiggle". The
medication he is on causes him to urinate ALOT !! we have had a few
accidents in the house.
I am starting to see some of his personality, he is very obedient but still
fearful.
He has a follow up appointment with the Vet on Tuesday, I will keep you
posted.
10/27 Poor Eddie has had a very tough week, he was brought to the ER on Tuesday night with a temperature of almost 104 and severe neck and back pain. He had lost four pounds in two days.
He has been diagnosed with steroid responsive meningitis, this relapse being
brought on by his distemper shot given on Friday. He is on several medications
for the next three weeks (at least) when his condition will be reevaluated.
His exercise needs to be restricted and his movements confined until he level
of pain has decreased. We did find out that Eddy was initially diagnosed and
treated for this a year ago.
His long term prognosis is very good, with proper preventatives in place and
Vet approved vaccines we should be able to keep him from having another
relapse. Despite his pain Eddie was the perfect patient and was completely
tolerant of being handled. Eddie is a very special boy.
Eddie's trip to the ER was very expensive so any donations towards his treatment will be very much appreciated.
10/22 Eddie has arrived at his foster home. He is great, very skinny and a little bit stressed but adjusting very well to his new foster family. I am trying to up his food intake but he eats so fast that I have had to put a ball in his dish to slow him down, he is ravenous all the time. He whined Saturday night and I had to crate him to settle him down but last night he slept with my daughter and was fine. He is so sweet and lovable, he is nervous and a little clingy but doing very well. I will send pictures tomorrow. More updates to follow as we get to know Eddie.
Eddie is a gorgeous white boxer. Eddie has always lived with other dogs so we will be looking to place him in a home with another canine companion. Eddie has lots of energy and would be best placed with older kids as he can be too much for little ones. Eddie knows some basic commands, and is crate trained. |
