1/3 Max is doing well. The poop thing seems to have been
an isolated incident. Otherwise, Max is doing very well. He loves to socialize
with visitors and loves to play with his little foster sisters. He didn't know
what to make of all the snow at first but now he loves to run around and bury
his face in it. He is still very curious of the cats so I am still keeping him
leashed when going upstairs into "cat territory" when we go to bed at night. He
loves his walks and is a very good boy when he sees other dogs. He doesn't even
look their way, even when the other ones are barking. He really needs to be
placed in a home where someone will be able to walk him everyday, in addition to
going out in the yard. He definitely needs the structure and the stimulation
that a walk brings. With all the snow and ice that we had up here he missed a
couple days of walks and seemed to be getting a little stir crazy. He does get
into a bit of mischief such as typical stuff, but listens very well to "no". He
has not been around any kids since his prior life but I'm sure that he would do
OK. He is not a jumper so I don't think that he would be in danger of knocking
little children over. He really should go to a forever home that has another
dog as he really enjoys being part of the pack. He is a very smart and
affectionate dog and I think that he would be a great addition to a
loving family. 12/15 Just letting you know how Max is doing
after a week with us. I have found him to be very calm and submissive as well
as pretty easy to adapt. He loves his walks and does very well on a leash with
a training collar. He doesn't mind his crate but he would much rather be with
people and other dogs. He really hasn't been in his crate for much longer than
3-4hours tops a few times a week so I think he would do best with an adoptive
family who is home more. He LOVES other dogs and I don't think that he would do
well as the only dog in the household. He has very
good manners with people
and with my resident little dogs. He plays very well with them too. He has
good obedience skills like "sit" and "no" but sometimes has a tough time
with "come" when he is distracted. I have not found him to have any aggressive
tendencies, with food or with other dogs. We don't have any kids so I can't say
how he is but, as you said, he came from a home with children. Max is also a
very happy, sweet, smart boy who loves to snuggle and be with his foster family
and I'm sure that he will make a great addition to any home. I have been
bringing him for quick, fun car rides as well and he does great in the car.
Also, he seems to be curious about cats but hasn't been allowed to get too close
as to not scare the cats. We have 2 cats, one without claws and one with.
I think that he is the type of dog who if he did get too close to a cat with
claws, one swipe and he would forget about them. Like I said, he is very
submissive and a bit of a follower so he would probably do OK in a home with
cats. As long as the cats had a safe place at all times, he will do
just fine. Max is a gorgeous male boxer. He is house broken & crate trained. Good with other dogs and kids. He is used to having someone who is home more often than not. Watch for updates once we secure a foster home and get to know him more. |
