Scrappy

15 Month Old White Male Boxer, Housebroken, Crate Trained, Good with Other Dogs

12/13 - Just wanted to send along a Scrappy Holiday Update! Scrappy is a
fantastic pup… He has improved his manners dramatically since arriving. He loves
everyone (and every dog) he meets. Although he still gets very excited
when introduced to new faces (what Boxer doesn’t), he mellows out quickly
and likes to sit an arms length away so that he can receive lots of love
and affection. At his 75 lb weight he gets along great with all other dogs,
even his 7 pound rat terrier foster cousin! Scrappy would do well in a
home with or without another dog due to his love of human attention and his
laid back nature. His foster sister must drive him nuts because she wants
to play all the time, but he seems to take it in stride and tells her not
to jump on him when he doesn’t feel like playing.

Scrappy now sleeps on the floor at night right next to the bed, so we
can be the first thing he sees in the morning. That’s pretty much when his
nubby tail starts wiggling and it doesn’t stop until he goes back to sleep!
During the day, he has been crated and has learned to respond to “Go to
your room” by going into his crate, which he doesn’t mind at all. On some
days, he spends time with our dog walker's 5 year old daughter and has been
nothing but gentle with her. He has also spent a weekend in a household
with small children under 5 without incident, except maybe your typical
Boxer kisses which most kids don’t seem to mind.

The vet has declared Scrappy 100% fit and a healthy young pup. Overall
he’s a big “Mushball” and a great companion who wants to find a forever home
where he will receive the love he deserves!

11/8 - Scrappy is doing great! He has been given a clean bill of health and he is quickly recovering from his neuter.  He is a great dog, loves human attention and has already learned many new commands in his foster home. He loves to play, give kisses and cuddle, despite his size!  He is great
with children and other dogs, but doesn't necessarily need a doggy playmate as he enjoys human attention just as much as doggy attention!   He sleeps in his crate at night but has occasionally slept on the floor without a peep all night. He doesn't mind going in his crate or being in there during the day when we are not home.  He is a great dog, very well behaved. Still needs to learn
how to listen but he's getting there!

10/18 - Scrappy is settling into his foster home quite nicely. He is a mellow love-bug that is always looking for attention and to give big slobbery kisses. His big nub of a tail does not stop wagging! He is still on medication for two more weeks at which time he'll get his blood levels checked and hopefully get a clean bill of health. He will also get neutered at that time. He plays great with other dogs so he would be best in a home with other dogs.

10/16 - Scrappy is doing much better and is now ready to leave the vet and go to a foster home to continue his recovery.  His liver values are now back in a more normal range after being on antibiotics for the last few days so at this point we are assuming the elevated values were due to an infection.  We will continue with the antibiotics for another couple of weeks and recheck his values again at that point.

Watch for updates once we get Scrappy into a foster home and get to know him more.

Scrappy is not feeling very well right now.  He was surrendered to us because he owner could not afford the treatment needed to help Scrappy.  Scrappy was rushed to our vet with a GI blockage and elevated livers values.  The good news is that blockage which appears to have been a piece of bone seems to have passed and he is definitely feeling a little brighter.  However he is not out of the woods yet as there is still an issue with his liver and an ultrasound revealed some nodules on his liver, at this stage we are not sure what is causing this.  He will be staying at our vet for at least a couple of more days on supportive care (IV fluids etc).  The next steps will probably be a liver biopsy.
