Tory

         1-2 Year Old Female Boxer, Good with Other Dogs

Although you may not be able to adopt this dog, you can help us care for her while she is in foster care! Even a donation of $5 will help us with vet care, food, etc.

Please Note - Tory will not be ready to be adopted until she gains some weight and is healthy enough to be spayed and vaccinated.  Due to the severity of her condition this may take several weeks. Please check back for weekly updates.

3/3 - Tory continues to do GREAT!!!!  Had an appointment at the vet yesterday, and the vet says she looks fantastic, and that she doesn't even look like the same dog.  She's up to 48 lbs, and he thinks her ideal weight would be around 50 lbs, so she's almost all the way to her ideal!  She's been vaccinated and is ready for her spay.  The vet says she has a wonderful temperament (we could have told him that), and that he is amazed at her progress and her will to live.  We are so proud of her!  Her aunt Penny saw her today too, and was not only awed by her robust good health but by her awesome personality, considering all that she has been through.  She now actively plays with her foster siblings, one of whom is twice her size, showing no fear or aggression.  She is fairly gentle when playing, very goofy, and responds to verbal prompts to stop playing, if only for a little while.  She is easily excitable, and will sit on command, but not for long yet.  She is very active and very puppy-like in her behavior, and we would be surprised to learn that she is even two years old.  Of course we'll never know her true age, but she is definitely still a very young dog.  She is as sweet as they come, cuddly, and loves to be with people.  Her past experiences have left her with some separation anxiety issues, but she is learning fast with a crate and the proper training.  She is a fast learner, and was already responding to the name Tory the minute she walked in to foster care (being a stray, we had no idea what name she was given before).  We'd like to see her with another dog or human for company as much as possible, as she yearns for attention and love.

2/25 - Hi everyone, it's me again, Tory!  I'm doing great, up to 45.5 lbs, and I LOVE LIFE!!!  I love my foster home, I love my foster sibs, I love food, I love to play, I love treats, I love toys, I love snuggling, and did I mention I love life?  My foster mom is thinking about trying something called "satin balls" to help me gain a few more pounds as I seem to have leveled out on my weight gain, and I don't know what those are, but I'm sure I'll love them too!  The only thing I don't love is my crate, but I only fuss for a short time, just to let my foster family remember that I would rather be with them every minute.  I can hardly remember back when life was so hard and miserable for me, thanks to all of you!!!  I am such a happy girl, and I wouldn't be without all of you taking such good care of me.  Thanks to everyone who has donated their money, time, thoughts and prayers to my well-being.  Oops, I have to go now... is it time to eat again?  Ohboyohboyohboy!  Kisses and boxer wiggles!

2/18 - Well, Tory the wonder dog is having a blast at her foster home.  This girl loves to play, and anything can be a toy, such as turning a grapefruit into a ball to chase and chew.  She is great with our dogs, and good with our two year old, although she will walk on top of anyone or anything in her enthusiasm.  She has a tremendous love of life and will to live, which is why we think she has come so far so fast.  The rapid weight gain has slowed down a bit, but she's up to 44 lbs, and no longer looks emaciated at all.  Just a little on the thin side.  She's great in a crate, but prefers to be with her people and foster brother and sister.  We don't see her as a single dog unless she's with someone who is home a lot, as she just craves attention!  She's a real snuggler, too, and if she isn't snuggling with her people, she finds a way to snuggle with one of her foster sibs.  The separation anxiety behaviors have vastly improved with the use of the crate and her familiarity with her surroundings.  Whatever forever home she ends up in will be VERY lucky!

2/10 - Hi everyone!  Tory is doing really well, and now weighs a little over 41 lbs., if you can believe that!  She's gained 11+ lbs. since she got here about 10 days ago, and the rest, food, and extra attention appear to be doing her a world of good!  She's sweet, and funny (had us in stitches the other day chasing her nubby tail), and loves, loves, loves attention from people!  Some separation anxiety issues seem to be cropping up, but we're working with her on that, and she's a fast learner.  She seems fine with her foster brother and sister, although sometimes gets jealous if she feels they are getting more attention than she is getting. You can see that she is dying to play, and she's started to do a play pose from time to time.  She's incredibly expressive, and you should see the face that we get when we say "no" to playing for now!   Her voice is back too, and seems just fine.  Pretty good with our toddler (supervised, of course), too, although she can be a little over enthusiastic in an effort to give big, wet kisses.  Her personality is really coming out, and we can see that she will be an active, happy pup personality when she is completely healthy.

  2/2 -  Hi! It's me, Tory! I really love my foster home- I have my own room, a big comfy bed, and lots and lots and lots of food! Still, I can never get enough, and I'm always searching for more on my way out to do my business. I'd be a counter surfer if anyone let me! I finish my meals in seconds, including the antibiotic for a cough and runny nose, but I don't even notice it as I'm so intent on eating! My foster mom says that I've gained weight in the short time that I've been here. She's weighed me four times since yesterday, and each time it says 34.8 lbs.  She thinks her scale must be off or something, even though I weighed 30.4 when I got here a few days ago on the same scale. No way could I gain that much that fast! But who knows? I eat a special food 4 times a day, I'm getting plenty of rest, and lots of lovin'! SOOOOOO much better than where I came from. My friends Aimee and Kristen came over today for a visit and to take these pictures- they are going to be in a local paper, and my pictures will be there too! I've become quite the celebrity lately being on the news on NBC 10 out of Rhode Island (you can see it on the Boxer Buddies website), but I'm not letting it go to my head. My foster mom says that I'm a very sweet girl, especially considering what I've been through, that I have a LOT of spunk, and that my personality is really starting to come out. I'm remarkably strong considering I weigh so little, and so far have no manners to speak of. However, I do know how to sit when told, and I almost always listen, unless I'm excited by food. I have to get some manners around food, though, as I have tried to steal milk bones from my foster brother and sister- but luckily they just ignore me. I don't see them much except over the gate, but that's cool. We'll play when I'm stronger. Thank you thank you thank you for getting me a nice place to stay while I get bigger and stronger. I can't wait to see what I will look like with some meat on my bones! Wiggles and kisses to everyone!  XOXO Tory

1/26 - There are no words to describe what I saw today when they brought Tory out to meet me.  Tears filled my eyes as this tiny little body appeared, looking so fragile, so painfully thin. I knelt down to pat her and she put her paws on my shoulders, got all tangled in my scarf (LOL) and proceeded to lick me to death! I really did not know where to touch her.  I was afraid she would break or that I would hurt her. Imagine a dog's skeleton...with some fur laid on top... that is Tory.  Literally, skin and bones. Every time she would sit, she would aggravate the sores on her bottom and they would bleed.  There is no fat to cushion her when she sits.  It was heartbreaking and stomach turning all at once.  She adored Abby (my daughter) and looked very stylish in her new purple doggie coat.  Hopefully, it will keep her nice and warm.  She seemed eager to get it on, putting her legs right in the sleeves!  She looks 20 lbs heavier with the jacket on, no exaggeration, but you can still see how tiny her legs are and how her skull is very bony and prominent.  I do want to say that despite all she has been through in her short life, this girl has spunk and one heck of will to live.  She managed a boxer wiggle and gave very wet kisses :)  She was not timid or shy in any way.   I pray that her organs have not suffered too much damage as a result of her malnutrition and that she makes a full recovery.  She is an angel and will bring joy to anyone who is lucky enough to meet her.

We have named this beautiful girl Tory. We received a call from a local ACO asking for our help. We were told that Tory was approximately 1 year old and extremely emaciated. She is not up to date on shots, nor spayed. She will need to gain at least 15lbs before she can even be vaccinated. This is what Penny had to say after meeting Tory today;

Well, I'm back from meeting the pup.  I have been doing rescue for a long time, and this is BY FAR the worst condition of a dog that I have EVER seen.  The ACO told me that they scale emaciated dogs on a scale of 1-9, nine being "good condition" and one being "dead".  They scored this dog at a 1.5.....only because she's not dead.  Honestly, I don't know HOW she's not dead as there is no fat or muscle on her body and I don't know what her body has been surviving on. She only weights 29 LBS.  I had tears in my eyes immediately when I saw her, and that has never happened to me before.  I thought I was prepared.....I was wrong.  I like to think of myself as a "rock" when it comes to this stuff....focusing instead on how we can make things better for the dog in need.  I couldn't get my mind to think that far.  This is the saddest thing I have ever seen.  The pictures do not even begin to portray what this poor dog really looks like.  Imagining the abuse/neglect this poor animal has endured tends to make you think she will be shy/fearful/apprehensive, etc.  She is NONE of those things....in fact, she's the complete opposite.  As I was kneeling on the floor, she came over to me, put her front legs on my shoulders and proceeded to climb into my lap and "sit" there.  I hugged her and scratched her ears and told her she would be OK and she was safe now.  I have tears in my eyes right now trying to write this.  This dog is the Poster Child for Boxer Rescue, no doubt.  She is a special girl.

Any donations towards Tory's treatment and recovery will be greatly appreciated.
