TRAINING
Training is one of the most important aspects of dog ownership. Whether you have purchased a puppy or adopted a homeless dog, your first priority after having your veterinarian check your dog should be to enroll your new household member into an obedience class. Boxers are NO different. They are easy to train, although most can be stubborn, they want to please and benefit greatly from training. Your goal is to teach your dog who is "alpha" in the pack, teach correct house manners and to have control even when in public. This can only be achieved through proper training. It is never too early to train a dog. Puppies as young as 8 weeks old can be taught to sit for a treat or when it is feeding time. Dogs are not ready for serious obedience training until they are 6 months old, but until that time, there is nothing more fun, for pup and owner, to enroll in a "puppy kindergarten" class. This class will teach basic commands and will help you with any problems you encounter. It is never too late to train a dog. Even that 6-year-old homeless dog that won your heart can be trained. This is a wonderful bonding experience for owner and adopted dogs and teaches the dog who is "Boss" in his new family pack. Obedience trainers can also be very helpful if there are issues with your new dog. Full-grown Boxers are very strong dogs. If they are not taught correct behavior they can become a menace in the neighborhood and could be potentially dangerous. Please do not allow this to happen. Train your dog! All dogs are worthy of love, companionship, health checks, proper nutrition, and obedience training. |
