A
letter from Winston's new parents!
Winston has been with
us almost two weeks and has made great progress! With each day, he
is more assured that this is his home, and he is with his new brother and
pal, Chet. The 16 month "puppy play" comes out a lot in Winnie
and he likes to rough house with Chet. Chet is very tolerant but on
a couple occasions, has put the young buck in his place.
Winnie is Chet's shadow and if allowed, sleeps in Chet's bed when Chet is a
little slow going to bed for the night.
Glenda and I have
found that Winston, like Chet, loves fuzzy blankets to sleep on with lots and
lots of pillows to get cozy. Winston
has made progress when learning some new commands. "Outside, Walk,
and Leash" seem to be a few favorites. "Down and
Heel", well we're still working on those. He gets so excited when
getting ready for a walk that he does the Boxer wiggle-butt. Winston has
even been accepted by the next door neighbor's golden retriever.
Winston still needs a
great deal of encouragement and praise which we try to consistently give.
This thing about
Winston being Glenda's dog had NOT come to pass. Invariably, wherever
I go--Winston is right on my heels.
We have been highly
entertained by Winnie running laps around the yard and jumping at least two
feet over Chet. We forgot how athletic a young Boxer full of energy
can be!
Glenda says he runs
like a Kangaroo--he jumps and leaps while running full bore. We know
there is not a mean bone in Winston' boxer body. The kids in the
neighborhood have been over to see our newest family member and Winston
absolutely loves playing with the kids. Heaven help the stray squirrel
or cat that runs in our yard! Winston watches everything outside while
sitting on our bed or propped up on the kitchen step stool. I call it
his strategic view of all the front yard.
Going for rides
are an absolute MUST for Winston. He jumps right into the vehicle just
like he owns the place.
The crate is not
something Winston has yet come to like, but we're still working on it. He is
very hesitant about his crate when we leave for work. We know
that Winston suffers from a little separation anxiety. Therefore, as we
did for Chet, we are teaching Winston two very important phrases, " We're
going to work or we're going to the store". Soon he will learn that
this means we are leaving temporarily but will be back. As
long as Chet is at least within eye sight of him, he is happy. We aren't ready
give him full run of the house just yet.
We will keep you
updated on his training and progress. Several people have commented
on what a beautiful boxer Winston is and also how he came to live with us. We
are quick to tell anyone we adopted him from Boxer Buddies and how the
process works.
Winston is a LOVER!
Without a doubt he is one of the sweetest dogs that dearly loves
attention and is so willing to please everyone he meets. If you need
more pictures--let us know.
Again we want to
thank Boxer Buddies for the thorough process in acquiring just the right dog
for us and just the right owners for Winston.
