My husband Chris and I adopted Mack almost two months ago. We had just lost

our boxer who died of cancer at the age of six. We applied to Boxer Buddies

in the hopes of getting a puppy. We were told we would have to wait...there

weren't many puppies that needed homes. I looked through the Boxer Buddies

website almost everyday...making a list of names of dogs we wanted to adopt

if we were approved. I looked at Mack's profile and decided he was not for

us because he had medical problems.

We then received word that we had been approved. A Boxer Buddies

representative called my home and had asked if we would consider adopting

Mack. I told my husband and I just lost our dog to cancer and really didn't

want to take another sick dog in only to lose the animal at an early age.

I then went back to the Boxer Buddies website and started looking again. I

saw Mack's name again and decided to read his story. I was horrified at

what had happened to him and the others. I saw pictures of Mack and thought

"Oh my god...he's beautiful!!" I talked with Chris and explained Mack's

situation and his medical needs. Our last boxer had a lot of medical

problems so it wasn't an issue of money. I showed Chris the pictures of

Mack and we decided we wanted Mack for our dog.

I contacted Boxer Buddies and told them we wanted Mack. I was then put in

contact with Mack's foster mom. About a week later, we brought Mack "HOME".

We had a three hour drive home but Mack never complained. We had to coax

him out of the car to go potty but he was OK. Once at home, he attached

himself to our "dog couch" and there he would stay. We again had to coax

him off the couch to go potty outside. Little by little, everyday he would

take a step forward. He had attached himself to me. Chris would do his

best to gain Mack's confidence.

It took some time but Mack is now in love with Chris. He is still painfully

afraid of people. We have taken him to several cookouts and picnic. We

have to coax him out of the car but then he makes himself comfortable at my

feet and tolerates people patting him. He has become very confident and

feels safe at home and in his backyard and has claimed our house as his own.

We take walks and he gets very excited when he sees other dogs but doesn't

like having dogs in his home. We take Mack everywhere with us...he loves to

ride in the car or Chris' pickup truck. Mack does tire easily and usually

takes a lot of naps.

Mack is still on and will always be on a special diet and medication for

problems with his kidney's. His vet Dr. Michols is very good with him and

explains everything to me regarding Mack's condition. His last appointment

went great. Dr. Michols said that Mack looks great outside and is doing

very good on the inside, especially after what he had been through.

All in all, Mack is a great dog. He is just like a puppy. Everything is

new to him and every experience is a wonder. He still has a long way to go

in trusting other people but I'm sure he'll get there. Chris and I are

going to do everything in our power to make sure Mack lives as long and as

happily as is "humanly" possible.

Chris and I would like to thank everyone at Boxer Buddies and all the other

people who adopted these dogs. Your are all wonderful people. Thank you

for caring.

Yours Truly,

Trish and Chris
