We're hoping that Ox's new family will have pictures for us to post soon, but for now, here is a letter telling everyone how great he is!!: Ox has settled in very nicely. He goes everywhere with us and the absence of his leg does not hinder his ability in any way, although he is still building up stamina to participate in long walks. Ox loves to go for rides in the car. Two times a week we take him to Blackstone park where he can really stretch his legs and have a great 'back to nature' experience. He loves his two sisters, Tiki and Casey, although Casey is not always in the best of moods for puppy play but for a fifteen year old spoiled cat, she copes pretty well with his enthusiasm. Tiki, on the other hand, loves her brother and will forget that she is a bird when she is with him by taking an interest in all the dog related toys and bones that he amuses himself with. Their time together is still heavily supervised but it is very obvious that they are both fond of each other.
Ox will have a fully fenced yard by the
onset of summer which will, no doubt, make him especially happy. Right now he
has a very long lead that does not allow him the freedom to sniff all four
corners of the property or follow us around when we are outside doing yard
work. He has a play buddy named 'Teddy', a male 9 month old Collie that is
twice his size and they have full on play sessions that result in complimentary
exhaustion.
His mange has cleared up with the
exception of a few spots on his feet. He had three topical treatments at home
for this and progress was seen dramatically by the third treatment. He
has gained about three pounds and looks amazing. He eats well, sleeps well
(sometimes even in the bed if he''s very sneaky) and loves to play. He will be
joining us on our vacation this year to Maine for a week of camping, hiking and
canoeing. (A life jacket has been ordered for him just in case!) I wish we had
a scanner so you could see how beautiful and happy he looks. We always get
compliments on how cute he is.
Ox has been a great addition to our
'family'. He has captured our hearts as animals often do and we just love him!
